Now More than Ever Prayer Guide Day 40

1 Timothy 2:1-6

First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made

for everyone, 2 for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time.

God has blessed us in tremendous ways. One of the greatest ways we can praise God and let Him restore a blessed life within us is by thanking Him for the ways He has blessed us.  As the old song goes…

“Count your many blessings; name them one by one,

And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.”

We may not always like the things that are going on around us, but we still have much more to be thankful for.  Being truly thankful changes our perspectives of our situations and restores hope in our future.  Thanking God for the leaders He places over us acknowledges His sovereignty over our situations and helps us look for His good purposes to prevail. As that song goes on…

“So amid the conflict, whether great or small,

Do not be discouraged; God is over all.

Count your many blessings; angels will attend,

Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.”

Pray:

Father, Thank you for the many ways You have blessed me, my family, my church, my community, city and country.  You have given me days of plenty and days of need.  I have had good situations and difficult ones, but in them all You have been there with me.

Father, I thank you for… (name as many blessings you can think of)

Father, thank you for the leaders You will put in office in the coming weeks.  I pray that You will bless them and be with them, whether they acknowledge You or not.  I trust by your sovereign hand You will demonstrate your goodness and I thank you for your blessings.  Amen.

This week we will be fasting and praying for our nation.  If you would like a guide on how to fast you can get it here.  Join us each night at 6:30pm for a time of prayer in the chapel.  Friday night will be led by our Children’s ministry.

Now More than Ever Prayer Guide Day 39

1 Timothy 2:1-6

First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, 2 for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.

Intercessions are the concerns of others that we bring before the Lord. We must pray for our leaders, that they have wisdom from God to make good and right decisions that seek peace and tranquility for all people, especially the weak and hurting, the needy and discouraged. God’s goodness and delight is not reserved for the majority, those of a particular persuasion, or even for only us and those like us.  No, God desires that everyone experience His salvation that is demonstrated in a tranquil and quiet life, in all godliness and dignity. We can pray for leaders who will bring justice and concern to those who the world would overlook.

Pray:

For leaders who would look out for the concerns of all people:

·  Those dealing with COVID

·  The sick and those facing healthcare issues

·  The unemployed

·  The homeless

·  Those treated unjustly – socially, racially, economically…

·  Widows, single mothers, orphans, foreigners

·  Others the Lord brings to mind…

This week we will be fasting and praying for our nation.  If you would like a guide on how to fast you can get it here.  Join us each night at 6:30pm for a time of prayer in the chapel.  Thursday night will be led by our Students ministry.

Now More than Ever Prayer Guide Day 38

1 Timothy 2:1-4

First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, 2 for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Matthew 6:9,10

9This then is how you should pray…

10Your kingdom come.

Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Prayers are our desires, hopes and dreams that we long to see and then bring before God. We long for tranquility in our lives and community. We hope for peace in our country. We pray that His kingdom would come, His will be done; that all the goodness of God and His ways would become reality in our lives, church, community and country. Take a moment as you begin to pray to imagine what it would look like for God’s kingdom to come in your life and our country.  What would need to change? Pray for those changes to become reality.

Pray

Father, I pray that my life would look like a person living in your kingdom. I pray that every follower of Jesus in our country would live as kingdom citizens – bringing the blessings of salvation to those around us. May we be known as a people of tranquility and quiet lives living in godliness and dignity for the sake of your kingdom and in the name of your Son, Jesus, Amen.

This week we will be fasting and praying for our nation.  If you would like a guide on how to fast you can get it here.  Join us each night at 6:30pm for a time of prayer in the chapel.  Wednesday night will be led by our Worship Arts ministry.

Now More than Ever Prayer Guide Day 37

1 Timothy 2:1-2

First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, 2 for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.

Proverbs 21:1 CSB

A king’s heart is like channeled water in the Lord’s hand: He directs it wherever he chooses.

Petitions are a cry to God for the specific and necessary needs of our lives. Particularly as we pray for our nation this week, our country faces many significant needs. God’s Word calls us to make our petitions known for the “kings and all those who are in authority.” We look to our leaders to make good and right decisions for the good of all the people of our country, and God is able to direct the hearts of these leaders (Prov 21:1). As you pray, holding up the needs of our country, petition God to direct the hearts of our leaders.

Pray:

  • Ask God to put the right leaders in place.
  • Ask God to help our leaders deal with…
    • The pandemic
    • Racial tensions
    • People unemployed
    • Growing poverty
    • Communities dealing with natural disasters
    • Social concerns; abortion, healthcare, immigration…

This week we will be fasting and praying for our nation. If you would like a guide on how to fast you can get it here. Join us each night at 6:30pm for a time of prayer in the chapel.  Tuesday night will be led by our Twenty-Somethings ministry.

Now More than Ever Prayer Guide Day 36

1 Timothy 2:1-6

First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, 2 for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time.

God knows that for His people to experience true peace and the kind of life that He desires for us it is only going to be found in Him. Our hearts long for a tranquil and quiet life where we live with our souls at rest. God’s Word says that this is demonstrated by godliness and dignity where we are able to walk through our days in strength and confidence regardless of our circumstances. We strive for what the world calls a ‘full and rich life’ but God offers us peace and quiet, a calm and stillness to face our days. What a beautiful picture of salvation that God desires for all people, tranquil and quiet lives, lived in godliness and dignity. Is this what you picture as a vision of your salvation?  A life where we experience God’s peace and our souls can find rest.  A life where we look more and more like him and are experiencing the fullness of human dignity.

Pray:

Father, Thank you that your salvation leads me to a tranquil and quiet life that looks like living as You do with all dignity.  Father, forgive me when I try to fill my life with all manner of things that I think might bring me peace and fulfillment but never can satisfy my soul. Help me to live trusting in You and looking to You for every good thing You have for me.  Thank you that You want everyone to experience this, and I pray for my friends and family (by name) to come to the knowledge of this truth.  Amen.

This week we will be fasting and praying for our nation.  If you would like a guide on how to fast you can get it here.  Join us each night at 6:30pm for a time of prayer in the chapel.  Monday night will be led by our Global Outreach ministry.

Now More than Ever Prayer Guide Day 35

1 Peter 2:15-17

15 For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people. 16 Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves. 17 Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.

God has chosen us, set us apart and called us His holy people.  That truth sets us apart with the power and ability to do good in all the areas of our lives.  We are free, unincumbered, unrestrained and unleashed, but our freedom is never a license for self-indulgence or evil.  We are no longer slaves to this world but to God Himself and He longs for us to conduct our lives in holy goodness in every expression and relation of life.

Pray:

Father, Thank you for loving me and setting me free to live as your child.  Help me to walk through the days of my life expressing your truth and values in every way.  May my life bring you honor and cause everyone I encounter to be confronted with your goodness, for you are worthy of all the praise of all creation.  Amen.
